Makeup Artists Share At-Home Facial Secrets!

First things first – get in the right mindset. Just because you’re giving yourself a facial, doesn’t mean it has to feel like a chore. Turn off your phone; lock the bathroom door, put on some soothing music. A Makeup Artists would want your facial experience to feel like a treat!
Also, be aware that any facial (even the spa kind) can cause minor irritation like new blemishes or redness. So you’ll want to perform this ritual when you’ve got some time to let Your Skin rest and recover, like on a weekend or when you know you won’t be spending much time in the sun.
Begin by exfoliating just-washed skin. This is the Makeup Artist secret for smooth, even looking skin texture. You can start by dry brushing your face with a loofa sponge or a soft-bristle brush like you’d use to brush a baby’s hair. If you want to go high tech, you can purchase an electric facial exfoliator that has a rotating head that slowly buffs away dead skin.
Whichever You Choose, use small, gentle strokes, going in a circular motion and working from your forehead down. Makeup Artists say working in this direction will help keep the delicate cells of your skin in tact.
Next, apply a mask to continue exfoliating. Choose a face mask that has a slightly grainy texture and added benefits like vitamin E to repair damage. This will help pores further open to eliminate dead skin cells. Apply masks such as these in a gentle, circular motion. Leave on for 10-20 minutes then rinse with warm water.
Once that’s done, apply a spot corrector to help with any wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots, or acne. Seal in the benefits of your at-home facial with a rich moisturizer. Moisturizer is another Makeup Artist secret to great skin. Don’t leave home without it!
